Here is a list of values that are important to me and the way I do my work.
Accuracy
When I write a blog post or create a website, I do my research to create the most up to date and accurate version possible.
The blog posts on my site are dated so that you can see when they were created and last updated – as we know, things can change quickly in the online world! User interfaces don’t stay the same and I want people to know when the information was gathered.
Attention to detail
Writing content that is detailed and informative is important to me. When I read blog posts online I find the best content is long form content.
I like to read posts that are in depth which contain screenshots and sometimes video, so I know how important it is to create the same myself (and it’s good for your SEO, too!)
Clarity
With ‘clear’ in my website name this had to be one of my values, didn’t it?
As I am part of the web accessibility community, I know just how important it is to provide information that is easy to read and understand. I loathe reading material that is overly complicated and full of jargon, so I don’t write like that myself.
Equality and diversity
Equality of opportunity is another one of my core values. I believe in giving everyone a fair chance, regardless of race, age, sex, sexuality, gender identity and disability.
Fidelity
When I take on a project I do it in good faith and work to the best of my ability.
If I get stuck with something I’d rather admit it and reach a compromise rather than struggle on and end up sinking!
Generosity
When I can, I like to give back to the community that has supported me so much.
I have a special affinity with the following causes:
- Big Orange Heart: support the mental health and wellbeing of remote workers.
- Pink Socks: a movement building kindness and connection through the simple act of gifting pink socks. I received my pink socks from someone I’d never met and I treasure them.
- Make WordPress Accessible team: work to improve the accessibility of WordPress, one line of code at a time.
Loyalty
I like to build long-term business relationships.
When I complete a website project, I know that maintaining your website is a key part of your business going forward, so I’ll work with you to do that.
Privacy and security
Keeping information private and secure when developing websites is imperative.
I use Dashlane password manager (referral link) to remember the many passwords I need to keep track of. Only I have access to the master password, and I prefer to share passwords securely through Dashlane than by other means like email.
Simplicity
I believe that the simplest solution is often the best one. This comes partly from my accessibility background, and it’s also just plain common sense!
Sustainability
As respecting the natural world and saving the planet are important to me, I’m mindful of them in my work.
I won’t work with anyone who dishonours this value, as it is one of my core values as a person.
